I brought my laptop in to school today, and did a bit of high tech sorcery, so I can now access the school's internets, hooray. The problem is, the school computers use a proxy to connect to the net. I managed to configure Firefox, Internet Explorer and maybe a few other windows application to use the proxy, but I still don't know how to get GW working.

Does anybody know how I can get Guild Wars, or any other application, to use a proxy to connect to the internet?

If you can get out through proxy, your best bet is to vnc to a home system and run it from there. You will experience lag like you wouldn't believe though. Proxy typically allow you to connect to the net through a http port (port 80)

Every IT department worth their salt blocks online gaming ports (WoW, GW, etc..). There is no way to bypass through a proxy without changing which ports your client uses to connect to guild wars. Also, be wary of bandwidth usage because you could be tracked by a Viewpoint server and have your MAC banned by the firewall.

I don't know. The official FAQ states that GW doesn't support proxies. Haskell claims to have done it, so you might ask him. But he's so full of hot air on so many topics that I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he really didn't know.
